Empowering African Americans for Heart Health
Why focus on sodium?
The salty truth is that African Americans are allergic to sodium.
Excessive sodium intake leads to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and other serious health issues. Unfortunately, many traditional African American dishes and processed foods are high in sodium, contributing to these health disparities.
Heart disease is excessive in the African American community.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among African Americans,
with rates significantly higher than other racial and ethnic groups. This is a serious public health concern that requires immediate attention and action.

Here's how to take part:
1. Raid your kitchen cabinets, refrigerator, and pantry.
2. Grab your favorite snacks, sauces, canned goods, and anything else you find.
3. Check the nutrition labels for sodium content.
4. Share your findings on social media using the hashtag #CabinetCheckChallenge.
By participating in this challenge, you're not only raising awareness about the importance of monitoring sodium intake but also encouraging others to do the same. Together, we can make healthier choices and improve our overall well-being.
